I've been tortured with exams these past few days.
First was, OSCE. I've forgotten the full name of it. Oriented .. Clinical examination ? something lah. There were 10 stations of 10 minutes each. There'll be a bell to indicate it is time to change stations. In that stations, there is either an "active" station where by you need to examine a 'mock' patient, or interview a 'mock' patient. "Passive" stations would have Xrays or CT scans or a blood picture and questions along with it to evaluate and answer. 10 minutes each, no rest stations for us, 100 minutes of mind blowing madness.
Second and third was MEQ 1 and 2. Its mmm.. OK i don't know what it stands for. something something Question ok?
5 MEQ each from 4 different departments (5 meq in meq 1 and 5 meq in meq 2).
Speaking of which, I've forgotten to include that this examinations consist of 8 subjects i.e medicine, surgery, paediatric, obstetric & gynecology, orthopedic, psychiatry, opthalmology, ENT..
MEQ is not just another normal essay for us. They had it projected on an OHP? , with questions and timer. Once time is up , you gotta place the answer sheet in ay BOX and all answers cannot be changed. Slide changes after time is over, for the following questions. that is for 2 hour and half.
MCQ 1 and 2 was normal just like other mcqs where we shade the box with pencil 2B.
Next is Long case and short cases. Which I'll be having them next week. Long case in Melaka Hospital, short cases in Muar Hospital.
Long case is a case given to u randomly after u've picked your draw on that day.
Draw with codes that only God knows what it stands for which indicate
- your turn,
- your lecturer,
- your case and
- which department.
Long case is either from surgery, medicine, ortho, paeds, ONG or psychiatry.
1 hour given to get the case, examine, blablabla and 30 minutes later with the panels.. :s
3 short cases, 10 minutes each.
All you do is,
- Enter.
- Get the question.
- Examine.
- Get the findings with your hands all sweaty, cold and trembling.
- Tell the examiner your findings at the 7th minute.
- Answer questions from examiner for the next 3minutes.
- KRINGGG.. move to the next station. this time they are all REAL patients.
I've been tru long case examination last year but I really have NO idea at all for short cases. I really hope I'll do well. I hope, I'll get a case which I know of, panels that are kind to me, and a very very cooperative patient. Amin.
Hope I'll PASS. That is all I need.
